Wahrzeichen,  The following buildings with high symbolic and integration value can be viewed as landmarks of Dresden:
  1. the Zwinger, especially the Kronentor
  2. the Frauenkirche, since its reconstruction it has overtaken the Kronentor
  3. the Semperoper
  4. the old town silhouette with the Canaletto view,
  5. the equestrian statue August the strong, known as Goldener Reiter and

Waisenhausstraße, the "Waisenhausstraße" and the "Dr.-Külz-Ring" are a part of the inner city ring. This inner city ring separates the inner old town from the Seevorstadt. In the 18th century it was called "An der Contrescarpe" but from 1805 on the eastern part has been called "Waisenhausgasse" and from 1840 on the whole street was named "Waisenhausstraße". Important buildings, like the Central-Theater and and the Victoriahaus were situated in this street but only a bank building on the northern part lives through the war. This bank building was rehabilitated costly in the meantime.
Waldmax,  is a popular Pub/Restaurant in an area called "Junge Heide" north of the district called Wilder Mann. The Waldmax comes into being as a simple inn for rambler since 1922 but later in the middle of the 1920th there was an extensive enlargement. During the GDR-time it was a typical GDR restaurant. In 1987 this restaurant was close because of unsatisfactory hygienically conditions. After an extensive rehabilitation the excursion restaurant was newly opened in 1996.
Waldpark Blasewitz,  is the second largest Park area in the district Blasewitz, mostly unaffected by the influences of urban life. The few mansions around have an very impressive and idyllic impact on the scenery, especially the ones lining the "Goethe Allee" with its gardens seemingly "melting" into the park. The former "Waldpark Hotel" is currently being converted into a residential Home and one of the most beautiful buildings, the "Villa Weigand", built 1894-95 by Max Georg Poscharsky is used as a Register office.

1. Villa, built probably by Johann Daniel Schade around 1785-90 for Duke Camillo Marcolini is a mansion with gothic stile elements.

2. Brewery, the in 1836 built "Societätsbrauerei zum Waldschlösschen" was the first share brewery of Germany. Today, the historic main building, the restaurant Brauhaus am Waldschlösschen with the second largest brewery in the city.

3. Areal, houses, mainly built in the "Dawn of the Industrial Revolution" and modern buildings can be found in this area, which is called the "Waldschloesschen-Areal". Its centre is a square were stairs are leading down to the vaults of the Old brewery. For many years it was home to the well known Jazz Club called "Die Tonne", now is here the Arteum ().

A large cinema is nearby. Unfortunately, the area is rather unpopular as a commercial centre and most shops which opened there not so long ago, had to close again.

Waldschlößchenbrücke,  the planned traffic course begins at the junction Fetscher-/ Pfotenhauerstraße and ends on the other side at the developed section of the Stauffenbergallee. The Elb crossing lies centrically between the Albert bridge and the Loschwitzer bridge, the bridge Blaues Wunder.

The bridge has a length of 636 m and re-clamps nearly the entire width of the Elbauen. It flows on the right side of the river Elbe into a tunnel, which leads from the road Bautzner Straße to the Stauffenbergallee.

The four-lane-bridge is to be used by motor vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. A tram line is not planned, but a buslinie. The prognoses proceed from 45,000 vehicles daily.

The total costs amount to approximately 139 millions euro with a promotion ratio by the federation between 66 and 90 %.

The Waldschlößchen bridge is Dresden's "structure of the century" not built however endlessly talked about!

To succeed in getting a decision in favour of the bridge an action group was formed which was successful. The vote convinced: 81.650 signs, about 60.200 were necessary. On 07.12.2004 the councillor gave his okay for the demands of the citizen.

To achieve an effective result of the citizen decision the majority decision has to be replaced of at least 25% of the people who are allowed to vote. (99.569 valid votes).

Worldheritage or bridge?
At the moment there is a new quarrel about the question on the harmony of the bridge waith the name "World heritage Dresdner Elbtal". This question should be answered during the negotiations between the city of Dresden and the UNESCO. During the conference from the 08.07- 16.07.2006 this topic is an item of the agenda.

UNESCO puts Dresden's Elbe Valley on the "Red List".
At the UNESCO conference on July 11, 2006, the Dresden Elbe Valley placed on the so-called red list. If the bridge is built, Dresden is threatened with the final revocation of its World Heritage title. Construction beginning 19/11/2007
After years of disputes and several court rulings, construction began on November 19, 2007.

On July 4, 2008, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee decided to revoke the World Heritage title from the Dresden Elbe Valley if construction of the Waldschläßchenbrücke was not stopped immediately. This is rejected by the incumbent mayor Lutz Vogel for legal reasons: "The bridge must be built, the majority will of the people of Dresden from the Citizens' decision 2005 must be carried out."

UNESCO removes Dresden Elbe Valley from the World Heritage List
After years of discussion, the Dresden Elbe Valley was removed from the World Heritage List on June 25, 2009 by a vote of 14 to 5 with two invalid votes because of the controversial construction of the Waldschlöchenbrücke been deleted.

On December 19, 2010, the arched part assembled on the Johannstadter Ufer was successfully floated in and the bridge was completed!

In 2012, the road slabs were installed and the cycle/pedestrian paths were largely completed. The bridge was released after several postponements on August 28, 2013.

Wallstraße,  is a road on the Westside of the old city wall. In the 1960's some blocks of flats were built in this area. On of the passages through the blocks leads to the underground car park which belongs to the "Altmarkt-Gallery", a popular shopping mall.

From 2014 to 2020, the area between Marienstraße and Wallstraße was supplemented with four residential and commercial buildings.
To For the individual buildings see Postplatz.

Waltherstraßenbrücke,  The bridge, built in 1894, spans the Friedrichstadt freight station and connects the districts Löbtau and Friedrichstadt. In connection with electrification, it was raised in the mid-1960s, partially demolished and since then it has only been used by pedestrians and cyclists.

During the Flood 2002 it was the only connection to Friedrichstadt, and patients from the flooded Hospital Friedrichstadt. In 2002/04 the bridge was rebuilt - partly with funds from the flood relief fund. It is 297.8 m long, has 2 lanes each and combined cycle and footpaths. At the same time, it is intended to relieve pressure on the Hamburger Strasse/Fl&uum;gelweg intersection that is currently under construction.

Warenhaus Hermann Herzfeld Department store built in 1901 in Art Nouveau style by Lossow and Viehweger on the north side of the Altmarkt. The striking Art Nouveau facade was removed during the renovation in 1923. The building, which was modernized in this way, was destroyed in 1945.

Wasserwerke, Dresden has four hydroelectric plants, all of DREWAG () include:
Wasserwerk Coschütz, in operation since 1946. The raw water basis is surface water from the Klingenberg and Lehnmühle dams, the capacity is 40,000-120,000 m³/day.
Wasserwerk Hosterwitz, Built in 1907/08 by Hans Erlwein, greatly expanded after 1980 using a more sober design and still active today. The raw water base is bank filtrate/infiltrate, the capacity is 10,000-60,000 m³/day.
Wasserwerk Saloppe, The first Dresden waterworks, built between 1871 and 1875 by Theodor Friedrich and Bernhard Salbach, has been in operation since 1875. The raw water basis is bank filtrate from the Elbe. Since 1995, the waterworks has been used to supply industrial water for the Königsbrücker Landstrasse industrial site. The capacity is a maximum of 400 m³/h. See also Saloppe
Wasserwerk Tolkewitz,  Built between 1894 and 1896 and put into operation in 1898 after the Saloppe, which was only built in 1875, could no longer meet Dresden's drinking water needs. The Tolkewitz waterworks collects over 72 wells from Laubegast to Blasewitz on the Elbwiesen so-called "bank-filtered" Elbe water and supplies it to the plant together with groundwater.

The raw water base is bank filtrate from the Elbe, the capacity is 6,300-35,000 m³/day.

). Floor plan:

The social composition or the recently beginning "segregation" is less of the "plate" itself, but rather depends on the size and location of the prefabricated building area. In addition to very well-received renovated residential areas such as those on Kohlenstrasse or Hauptstraße also social and structural decline areas (partly Prohlis, Friedrichstadt).

Webergasse,  is a little lane in the western part of the Inner Old Town. It is only one of many little lanes going parallel from East to West. One can find many shops, bars and restaurants there. One of the bars is called "Die Bärenschänke". Between 1958 and 1962 modems blocks of flats were built there which were knocked down in the late 90's. Archaeological excavations followed and a big, modern shopping centre "Altmarkt-Galerie" was built (open since 2002).
Wechselbad (theatre),  Former small theater with several stages in the former Arbeitsamt of the pre-war period (today a culture and congress center). It was operated by ORPHÈE Event GmbH, which also markets the historic building in Bauhaus style.

The rollercoaster was closed . Also The Boulevardtheater Dresden opened at the same location.

Weigelsches Haus, Neumarkt 2,  The representative seven-axis building was redecorated in 1766 with three upper storeys, a mezzanine and a high mansard roof around a central octagonal courtyard. The windows in the centre axis of the three-axis central risalit are fitted with roofing. The house at Neumarkt 2 is a prime example of grand bourgeois residential architecture from the period after 1760.

Destroyed in 1945 and later demolished, it was rebuilt in 2005/06 as the main building largely in the historical style.
As a concession to the modern use, a circumferential corridor (unfortunately oval and not octagonal) and a glass roof were inserted into the courtyard on the first floor.

Weinberge (Vineyards),  within the City there are 2 areas, a smaller one around the castle called "Albrechtsschloss" and the "Dinglinger Vineyard" and the larger one is the Royal Vineyard of Pillnitz. Especially the larger one, which has not been used for about 100 years due to the vine pest is being rebuilt by spare-time vintagers. The Pillnitzer Landstraße between the bridge "Blaues Wunder" and Pirna-Graupa is part of the Saxonian vine-lane. ().
In Wachwitz and in Pillnitz a wine didactic exhibition lane exists.

substantially more extensive wine areas than Dresden exist in the neighbouring city of Radebeul.

Weinbergkirche (church),  built 1723-27 in Pillnitz by Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann is an architectural treasure surrounded by vineyards. The church which was largely neglected during the communist era has been redeveloped in the 1990's thanks to a citizens action group. It does not have its own congregation.

In 1983, the city of Dresden became the owner, followed by the Free State of Saxony in 1993. Since 1996, the Weinbergkirche has been jointly managed by the Weinbergkirche (), of the parish of Hosterwitz-Pillnitz () and the Dresden State Palaces and Gardens, Pillnitz Palace Company (),, as representatives of the owners.

Weinbergschlösschen, Döbelner Straße 24,  Remarkable baroque villa, built in 1738 and also called "Spiegler's House" after a former owner.
Weinbergskirche, > In 1915, the Weinbergskirchgemeinde in Trachenberge became an independent congregation. Since 1999 it has been linked to the Apostelkirche in a sister church relationship, and since 2006 it has belonged to the enlarged Laurentiuskirchgemeinde. Built in 1958, the Weinbergskirche was the first new church to be built in Dresden after the Second World War.

Weiße Gasse,  a little lane in the east of the city centre behind the "Frauenkirche", which was first mentioned in 1561. Around 1960 its character was transformed into that of a square due to the newly built houses surrounding it. In the middle of this square stands a fountain called "Gaensediebbrunnen", which used to stand on the square called Ferdinandplatz before the Second World War.

Around 2006, the Weisse Gasse was transformed into a second "pub mile (after the Münzgasse). " in the Old Town. Due to its location behind the Kreuzkirche it is only a stone's throw from here to the Alt- and to Neumarkt. Through and over the archway-like connecting building to Wilsdruffer Strasse you can see the Frauenkirche, which was completed in 2005 see.

The "Wohnbau NordWest GmbH" (WOBA Dresden now) and the local restaurateurs make (have made) an invaluable contribution to Dresden's charming atmosphere and livelihood.

The collective advertising community has now collapsed, and a number of the first restaurateurs gave up and sometimes made way for “cheaper” and changing fast-food restaurants.

Weißer Hirsch,  a district which was a spa until 1921, called Bad Weißer Hirsch. It had many famous sanatoriums, one of which was the former Lahmann's Sanatorium, Hotels (including the legendary Parkhotel, guest houses( yes they existed back then), the hotel called "Louisenhof" which belongs almost to Oberloschwitz.

For more info see special page Weißer Hirsch.

Weißeritz,  is an influx into the river Elbe from the "Osterzgebirge". The river comes from the Freital-district called Hainsberg and consists of the rivers "Rote Weisseritz" and "Wilde Weißeritz". It flows from the Freital-end of the Plauenschen Grundes into Dresden and meets the river Elbe west of the Flügelwegbrücke. Until 1893 the last distance was at what is today the Weißeritzstraße.

During the high tide (the flood 2002) the river destroyed the whole area known as the Plauenschen Grund and the boarding parts of Plauen and Löbtau. It then continued in its river bed and flooded the Friedrichstadt as well as the suburbs called Wilsdruffer Vorstadt. It split over the rail ways near the station called Hauptbahnhof and left the station, flooding the building site at the Wiener Platz, the Prager Straße and parts of the Südvorstadt.

Weißeritzmühlgraben,  a plant significant for the Dresden mill- and trade history, which until 1937 on the road Hofmühlenstraße at the height of the Biedermannstraße the "Weißeritz mill ditch" branched off the Weißeritz. It tangented to the road Ammon-straße, the place Sternplatz and the Schauspielhaus in its process, fed the pond "Zwingerteich" and disembogued close to the Packhofstraße above the bridge Marienbrücke into the river Elbe.
Weißeritzstraße,  road that goes along the former Weißeritz river bed and was moved 1893 to the bank called Emrich-Ambross-Ufer. Because of the station Bahnhof Mitte nearby it has gained importance for the public transport. One can find the sight Yenidze (former Cigarette fabric) and one of the historic market halls, which is today a furnishing house.
Weißeritztalbahn [district Weißeritzkreis],  oldest still in service present steam-locomotive narrow-gauge railway of Germany, travels on 26.3 km long distance between Freital-Hainsberg and the health resort Kipsdorf in the Osterzgebirge (east ore mountains). The Weißeritz valley course was built in 1881 to 1883 with a track width of 750 mm and opened until Schmiedeberg on the 1st Nov 1882. The entire distance went into service on the 3rd Sept 1883.

In 2002 the course was totally destroyed to large parts by the flood of the river Weißeritz. After years of uncertainty, the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the line took place on September 14, 2004 at Rabenau train station. Until 2007, however, (almost) nothing happened from the bureaucrats' dispute.

However, since the summer of 2008, reconstruction in Rabenauer Grund has progressed quickly and was completed in December of the same year. Since then, the railway has been running regular services again between Freital-Hainsberg and Dippoldiswalde.

construction work finally began on the section to Kipsdorf, this section was opened.

The railway is an attraction for tourists from all over the world. Special trips and the annual small train festival always attract visitors.r

Weizenmühle (former mill), It was built in 1770 as one of the first powder mills for the Saxon army in Plauenscher Grund. Grain was first milled here around 1830. In 1903, it became the property of the Braune bakery. In 1917, the striking silo tower was erected on the riverbank and ownership was transferred to "König-Friedrich-August-Mühlenwerke AG". The mills have been closed since 1990 and the buildings have fallen into disrepair.
Welt der DDR,  Museum in the Hochhaus at Albertplatz with 60,000 to 75,000 exhibits on GDR history. The museum was initially founded in the Neustaedter Markthalle as the GDR Automobile Museum 2006-16 under the name Zeitreise – Way of life in the GDR 1949-1989 in Radebeul. After the museum went bankrupt in the summer of 2016, the collection was bought by the retailer Peter Simmel and reopened at new location. In 2023 it was closed due to lack of visitor interest and the exhibits were sold.

West tangent,  four lane traffic course of the connection point New Town of the A4 across the bridge Flügelwegbrücke, the Emrich Ambross bank, high road Löbtauer Brücke, Nossener Brücke, Nürnberger Straße and Zellescher Weg to the Dohnaer Straße (B172). It follows mostly the plans of a 3rd closed ring (after Old Town ring and the ring which was used formerly by the tram line no. 26).
Wettiner, sächsisches Herrschergeschlecht, regierte rund 800 Jahre bis 1918 das Herzogtum, Kurfürstentum bzw. Königreich Sachsen, seit 1464 von Dresden aus.
Wettiner Platz,  important place in the Wilsdruffer Vorstadt, until 1945 coined/shaped of the church Jacobikirche destroyed with the attack. 1946-91 were called the place after a communist worker leader Fritz-Heckert-Platz. Today the University of Music and the former combined heat and power station center border on the so far only partly seized place.
Wiener Platz,  forecourt of the station Hauptbahnhofes, and since 1903 known under this name, from 1974-91 it was called Leninplatz, and re-named to Wiener Platz in 1991. Before the destruction in 1945 it was mainly cover with mansion buildings, the entry to the Prager Straße is an unfinished crossover to the closed shopping area, right hand side is the destinctive building of the "Feuerversicherung" (an insurance company specialised in fire insurance, which nevertheless could not prevent the total destructions of all buildings in this area on the 13th February 1945).

In GDR times it was an empty square , pre-dominated by the large statue of Lenin and 4 blocks of flats. Big plans made for this area after the change could so far only be partially realised, the second largest building site after the Potsdamer Platz (compared to the already finish great building site in berlin) In 2002 the first big business building on the North end was completed. In early August 2003 the underground car park was be finished and handed over to the public, after a 1-year delay.

Also planned were, among other things, 5 modern cube houses (such buildings typical of Dresden already stood here before 1945), a complex similar to a department store an originally designed "glass house" Designated commercial building () with the floor plan of a cake slice. Construction began in 2003, and the topping-out ceremony took place on December 6th, 2004 after a temporary construction stop.

Two of the cube houses were integrated into the so-called Kugelhaus, which was opened as a modern shopping centre.

The glass house was quickly completed in March/April 2006 after two construction stops. From April 27, 2006, several fashion stores, cell phone providers, bakers and a café opened in the building, which will be called Prague Spitze. The official inauguration ceremony was on May 18, 2006.

In addition to the Kugelhaus, the Steigenberger Group built an InterCityHotel with 162 rooms by the beginning of 2008. Two more of the original 5 “cube houses” were added. connected with a glass passage and the facade covered with natural stone. The same builder built another cube house as a commercial building.

To the east of the "Kugelhaus" there is a small extension to the Prager Strasse. It is bordered on the eastern edge by the Prager Spitze commercial building that opened in 2006, The center of this area is the above-ground pavilion of the nationally known wedding outfitter Uwe Herrmann, which has completely taken over the underground floor with previously various shops and a passage to the Wiener Platz underground car park. This means that the originally planned passage to the Hauptbahnhof is history.

For the next few years, the development of the area to the east of
St. Petersburger Strasse area is planned. The city has decided on the design of the Hamburg office “bof”, which wants to counteract the Prague Peak with, among other things, a high-rise building.

Wilder Mann,  is a popular part of Trachenberge, with a tram station which carries this name since decades.

The district takes its name from the historic excursion restaurant “Wilder Mann” (Wild man). ().

After 1945, the building was the district party school of the SED, from 1969 the television studio of the Dresden broadcaster and from 1990 to 1999 the state broadcasting center of the MDR. In 2007/08 the house was converted for more upscale residential purposes after a planned use as a doctor's center failed due to a lack of interest.

Wilsdruffer Kubus,  The successor to the Zwingergaststätte, which was demolished in March 2007, was built in 2007/08 according to plans by Büros Schulz & Schulz. The main user is SAP AG, with shops and a café on the ground floor , and the "Max Altstadt" restaurant in the adjacent building. .
Wilsdruffer Straße,  East-West Connection of the Inner Old Town passing the Altmarkt on its North end. The western part was called Wilsdruffer Gasse since the Medieval times and renamed to Wilsdruffer Strasse in 1858. The eastern part developed after the fusion with the Badergasser after 1885 and re-named to König-Johann-Straße, since 1945 simply called Johannstraße. In 1954 both streets (now enlarged from 20 m auf 60 m width) were joined and called Ernst-Thälmann-Straße. In 1991 the street was re-named to Wilsdruffer Straße.

Before the destruction in 1945 and after the rebuilt it was one of the most significant shopping areas, after the Prager Straße but since the change it has lost its attraction and work is in place to reverse that, with projects like the recently built complex called "Quartier M"" (of the former Wohnbau Nordwest).
On the road there are many shops, the Wilsdruffer Kubus (cube), the Kulturpalast (Palace of Culture) and the Stadmuseum city museum in the Landhaus.

Until March 2009, the only building on the old Wilsdruffer Strasse from the pre-war period stood here, the Knoop department store, built around 1930. After war-related damage was repaired, it was also a department store as Howa, Centrum and Intecta, but ultimately only for temporary shops and various exhibitions. In 2009 it was demolished along with the connecting building to the Howa head building.

The adjoining so-called Linde House, a simple functional building from the 1970s, was also demolished in 2009 and extends to Postplatz.

The street Wilsdruffer Straße has recently been upgraded. In summer time one can set under shadowy trees.

Anstelle des seit Jahren leerstehenden Restaurants (zuletzt "Steiger am Landhaus" ) war in der DDR-Zeit die beliebte ungarische Gaststätte "Szeged".

The expansion of the Altmarkt-Galerie, which opened in 2011, has led to further desertification of the southwestern section of the street. hrt. After the old HOWA building and the so-called Lindehaus were demolished, the gallery extends as far as Wilsdruffer Strasse, but the shops can be reached almost exclusively via the “shopping mall” inside.

The (sunny) north side developed into another bar mile.

Wilsdruffer Tor,  Previously also called Wilisches Tor or Wilsches Tor, it was the western city gate of medieval and baroque Dresden. It was located on today's Postplatz at the exit of Wilischen Gasse, now Wilsdruffer Straße to Freiberger Strasse, located outside the city wall. It was named after the town Wilsdruff.

The gate, first mentioned in documents in 1391, was demolished in 1811 as part of the demolition of the Dresden Fortress.

Windberg [City of Freital], The 352 m high elevation in the eastern part of Freital (and therefore located southwest of Dresden) with its wooded surroundings is a local recreation area for Freital and the south of Dresden. From the King Albert Monument, built in 1904, you have a wonderful view of the valley of the Weißeritz and the wooded Hö hen of the Döhlener Basin.
Windbergbahn,  formerly called "Sächsische Semmeringbahn", is a technical monument, It lead from Freital-Ost (Albertbahn, today part of the Dresden-Chemnitz line) via Gittersee to Possendorf. The train gained in significance through the local hard coal mining. In 1951 the traffic between Kleinnaundorf - Possendorf was ceased, and in the early 1970's the line between Gittersee and Kleinnaundorf stopped operating. Since 1957 no passengers were transported and the freight traffic ceased in 1993. Between 1991 and 1998 there were still special trips for visitors. At present it is uncertain if the passenger travel for tourists will ever take place again because large parts of the tracks have already overgrown.

An association is taking care of the railway's heritage and the desired resumption of special trips, which also runs a small museum in the Gittersee train station. ()

In September 2012, special trips were offered again on a section. A Wernesgrüner rail express, a motorized “draisine” for 15 people, was used.

Since May 26th, 2021, special trains have been running again from Hp.Gitteresee to the “Leisnitz / Burgk Castle” stop, and since October 2nd, 2021 (anniversary “100 Years of the City of Freital”) to the bridge on Ferdinand-Freiligrath-Straße. The Windberg observation car is used together with the club's two diesel locomotives.

Woba (später Teil der Gagfah und heute der VONOVIA),  The former municipal real estate company was created in several steps from the municipal housing administration (KWV) of the city of Dresden - most recently VEB Gebüudewirtschaft Dresden. In 1990, the approximately 168,000 apartments became the property of the city of Dresden. The city formed two companies from this: Wohnbau Nordwest GmbH and Südost WOBA Dresden GmbH. In keeping with their name, the companies each held around half of the housing stock on a territorial basis. Both companies each sold around two thirds of their apartments by 2004 (approx. 120,000 apartments in total), primarily to private investors, and were merged in the same year to form Woba Dresden GmbH.

The Dresden City Council In 2006, decided to sell all shares to the American investment company Fortress Investment Group LLC for €982 million. Since then, Woba has been a subsidiary of Gagfah (non-profit stock corporation for employee homes), which is majority owned by the Fortress Group. Since January 2008, Woba has been operating under the name “GAGFAH Group”.

GAGFAH announced that the inventory of WOBA Dresden GmbH should remain with the company in the future. This means that it is moving away from the sales plans announced in spring 2012. the company merged with Deutsche Annington to form Vonovia. Vonovia, based in Bochum, no longer operates customer centers on site.

World Trade Center,  Built 1994-96 by Nietz, Prasch, Sigl & Partner. A 16-story tower protrudes from the 7-story complex. The complex is accessible via 16 representative entrance lobbies and a total of 28 high-speed elevators. In the large mall are the Comödie, the Dresden International University, a food market and a number of small shops and restaurants. Changing special exhibitions and small markets take place in or in front of the mall; the complex also includes a hotel and (still) the DREWAG headquarters.

After a renovation in spring 2011, the WTC, with its 3,000 employees in around 100 companies, has a gross floor area of 90,000 m². There were initially large pools of water in the mall that invited people to linger, but these have since been dismantled.

Würfelhäuser,  also known as “coffee grinders” because of their shape. called. The free-standing cube house lined up along the street is the defining type of Dresden's suburbs, which emerged at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. was built in large numbers and variety.

The best examples are the large urban villa districts of Striesen and Löbtau, but also in Trachenberge, Cotta, Blasewitz, Gruna, Plauen, Südvorstadt and other areas such examples exist. While you can find very large and representative city villas in Striesen, you can find a smaller two-story version in Plauen, for example.

In the cube house, two building ideas mix: you live in an almost rural and quiet way in a "villa", and at the same time in an economical and urban way in an apartment building on the same floor. Aerial photos of the "coffee grinders" arranged in a grid. lead to monotonous quarters. This is not the case, as the urban planning rigor was combined with architectural diversity. The houses were given a varied, partly neoclassical, partly romanticized design, and the open space was generously greened. The cube house type has created very attractive living quarters.

Yenidze,  built 1907-1912 by Hermann Martin Hammitzsch as a Factory, producing Cigarettes. The 1886 founded "Oriental Tobacco- and Cigarette fabric Yenize" got its name from an area in Turkey which was famous for its tobacco. The outside of the Steel construction is pre-dominated by Moorish stile elements as well as a "Minaret", which surrounds the building. Because the whole building has a very oriental appearance it is called the "Tobacco-mosque".
